2.The Graduate

Here are some screenshots which will show us the essential points in the film

In this photo, we can see Mrs.Robinson's sorrow out of her face when she remembers her past. She tells Benjamin about herself( why she had to marry with Mr.Robinson and gives us clues about that times' social perception) In 1940s people were not tolerant for women who get pregnant without marriage. Thus, there was no way out for Mrs.Robinson(thanks Sonja for this information:)). So,this marriage was not a love marriage. In this bed, may be she looks for a love. Also, i think she tries to seduce Benjamin in order to feel as she turns her adoloscence and make things different. That's why she chooses a young guy to reach like Benjamin :). On the other hand, we can see Benjamin's surprised expression while Mrs.Robinson talks about her past. Also, he is unexprienced and don't know what to do so that's why he tries to chat rather than having a relation:).

Here we can see an example of rebellious youth! Without taking consider of what people will think, they make their decision and escape. They were forbidden to each other. And the forbidden love is the attractive one so, they decide to fight for it. There are many people behind them but no one has the power to stop them:)(may be for the first time, they did something because they want to)

Here is Ben lying on the seabed. I think this scene is important. Because, he remembers Mrs.Robinson and their hotel room adventure in this seabed. Here Ben's sunglasses is a mask and under that mask he thinks Mrs.Robinson. He needs a mask because he is dreaming about the forbidden:)(no one should see his thoughts so to hide that he puts on his sunglasses)

Here an adult is smoking. This is symbol of being an adult in this film. So, after having relation with Mrs.Robinson Ben also starts to smoke and drink:/(witch Mrs.Robinson she is the reason of Ben's new bad habits:P)

1. The Continuing Myth of Adolescence

This article is about the relation between adolescents and adults and it focuses on a big problem: "devulation of adolescence".
Sharon Nichols, looked into the reasons for devulation of youth.
So, lets have a look at:What are the reasons for devulation of adolescence? according to our author.
-Economic values&Family Expectations: He points us that, adults are not sensitive towards teenagers. One of the reason for this situation is, as time goes things change. By these changes, perceptions and life styles also varies. For example, nowadays, economic values are not the same as the old times. In 1900's teenagers were used to work on the family farm or in the family business and they were used to get married at an early age. Thus, by starting a family they matured early and may be they did not create any problems or got into depression(unlike us:)) in their adolescence. Neighborhoods were also strong and families were used to live together and have a troubleless life. So, these kind of differences may make adults not to understand 2000s' adolescents:)
-Globalisation: In 1900s people used to have face to face relations but today young people are living in an unfamiliar and globalized location. So, this prevents people(adults&teenagers) to know each other properly.
-Media-Forgetable youth(for adults):Media, is an important reason for devulation of youth. It focuses on negative youth stories(it doesn't concern with good ways of youth) and effect adults' point of view.
-Forgetable Youth:"For many adults, adolescence becomes a mythical time, and memories of that time become exaggerated, repressed or forgotten."(this quotation summarizes us the effect of forgetable youth in adults' attitudes towards teenagers!)

I think, these are the most important parts of the article.

Little Blogger is Back:)

Holiday was sweet, it was full of happiness:( But, it is over and little blogger is on the go for "ENG-102":). This term, we will have an interesting theme: "Explorations of Identity".

Now, i want to start with what i learned first day of the class:):
Adolescence, is a period of life. It is a stage between childhood and adulthood.
Adolescents, are teenagers(young people).

These two words pronounced in the same way. But,the difference is their meanings:).
In my next post, i will talk about the film "The Graduate" and a reading text :"The Continuing Myth of Adolescence" by Sharon Nichols.
