My Oedipus Complex- Frank O'Connor

Larry: Little, jealous boy.He is mother's darling:)
Father:(Santa Claus:)-"He came and went mysteriously") He was in the army and Larry never saw him until age of 5. In other words, Father is a stranger for Larry:(
Mother: sensitive, the reason of Larry's hatred against his father. She is Larry's dear:))

Before Father was back, Larry was happy with his dear Mother:) They were hanging around, spending time together and Larry was the only ONE:) After Santa Claus came back, Larry was no more happy. Santa Claus was an opponent for Larry!:/ Larry was not sure if he was really praying for his father's comeback.
One day, Father took Larry for a walk. Larry got bored with him and pull him from his coat and trousers. The reaction of his Father was crude. "Larry if you don't behave yourself, I'll give you a good slap." Larry thought that going for a walk with Father was like going for a walk with a "Mountain".

What was annoying Larry?

Mother:"Don't you hear me talking to Daddy?"- means be quiet Larry I want to listen your father. You are not the only one anymore honey!:(

Mother: "You must be quiet while Daddy is reading, Larry."

Mother: "Sssh.. Don't wake Daddy"
Mother: "Poor Daddy is tired."(Besides, Larry was weird out when he saw a stranger(refers to the Father) sleeping with her dear)
Larry:"Mummy, I think it would be healthier for Daddy to sleep in his own bed.
Mother:"Go your own bed"Larry!

Larry was omitted by her dear Mother:(
And here we go, the struggle man for man was started.

-o-o-o-o-

Daddy: "That damn child" Doesn't he ever sleep?" (rude Santa Claus:@)

Daddy: "Shut up, you little puppy"

These statements shows us that, Father sometimes deserves Larry's hatred:(
Little blogger's comment: Daddy, daddy! Don't you understand that he is a child???? Be more gentle and try to talk with your son:( Try to understand what is the problem with him!

Larry understood that there was no way to gain back his Dear:( So, he tried to imitate his Father in order to take Mother's attention. He tried to read newspapers, drink the tea like his Father did and so on.

Father was Larry's big enemy before Sonny was born.:( Sonny was a difficult child and demanded much more attention:/

Oh dear! Here is the new opponent for little Larry:(
THE NEW SLOGAN was:
"Don't wake Sonny"
-o-o-o-

One day Larry woke up and saw his Father behind him. He was dealing with Larry while the mother was loving her dear son Sonny:)After that, Larry realized that daddy didn't deserve his hatred and said: "Put your arm around us":) And after that, it was time for PEACE and LOVE:)

Little blogger's comment: Thank you cute Daddy for listening Little Blogger's comment and being a real, tolerated dady:P:)

7.Black Men and Public Space

A story of a poor man:(
Assumptions: He is a criminal, burglar may be rapist, mugger. He is a bad man! The reason for these assumptions is his inheritance. He is black.
Infact, he defines himself as softy and one of the good men.

Tough Guy Image
Man of colour need to have a masculine posture in order to gain respect. So, black people use their body to frigten people. They try to look tough, scare people and use violence in order to prove themselves.
"You gotta look man or people won't respect you. White people will run over you if you don't look man. You gotta look like warrior!" (TOUGH GUISE)

These image makes people to think that, "black people are dangerous"(a stereotype). In our story, the reactions against a black man is a result of this kind of stereotypes and the tough image of black people. But, our black man is innocent:( He is not one of the young thugs. Addition to that, he is tolerated because he can understand the reason of people's bad reactions against him. Thus, he take some precautions in order to make himself less threating. For example, he whistles melodies from Beethoven and Vivaldi, he exchanges business clothes with jeans and so on.

who WILL afraid of him:)???

6. Who is a whiz kid? - Ted Gup

This story focus on the stereotype which known as "Asian-Americans are smart and good at mathematics". Actually, this stereotype is a kind of racism and it is again generalisation which may oppres that nation to obey this stereotype. For example, in the article we can se a young Asian-American student enumerating his or her hobbies as "studying, studying and more studying". They feel that they bound to in order to make the stereotype come true. Besides, these kind of positive stereotypes relating to a race may exalt those people who are dependent in that race but it is important to remember that while exalting one race you lower others!
Another important point in this story is that, it shows us that being smart or good at mathematics is not a genetic predisposition. It depends on a person's ability, culture, endeavor, intelligence, accumulation etc.

5. Stereotypes, Positive or Negative, Cloud The Truth

In this article Cathy Hwang argues that "stereotypes are stereotypes, whether they are positive or negative." Generally, people assume that positive stereotypes may seem inoffensive but Cathy Hwang is against to this idea. So, she thinks that stereotyping can not be inoffensive because "stereotypes lump people into categories" and they are some kind of generalisation which may not valid for whole group members.

She gives some examples and try to explain us why positive stereotypes may cause negative results.
In my opion, the most crucial example was the "All Americans are rich" stereotype. This stereotype may seem as positive but infact, it is not. For instance, when one of the poor Americans travel abroad she/he may get ripped off by a street hawker because of this stereotype. We can also, see such examples in Turkey. The scapegoat of this ""positive"" stereotype can be an innocent tourist. As an example, in grand bazaar if you reveal your nationality(as an American) you may pay double price for whatever you look for(carpet, silver, leather etc.)'(Attention please: I don't want to stereotype the artisans of grandbazaar so, I purpusely use "may" in my sentence=))'

Lets move on another stereotype which is negative(not included in the article)

"Stupid Blondes"- this stereotype annoys me because I am blondish:p(it means a bit blond:D)
It is not only a stereotype it is also known as a routine joke. So, this means that it is more difficult to abolish this stereotype because it is integrated with culture and general perception of people. No matter if it is a joke or stereotype it may be offensive. Because this type of generalisation mostly is not valid for whole blondes. Actually, I think this is not a joke or a stereotype it is a kind of outrage. I have to admit that, I won't take offense if someone tells me this stereotype because it is a just "stereotype". I don't accept this outrage:))

Legally Blonde is a nice comedy which focuses on this stereotype:) Elle Woods seems like a stupid girl but she is not infact:) She becomes determined to do well at law school, studies hard and impresses her professors so, by this way she proves that she is not a stupid blonde.

4.Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?(1966) 'Hey Arnold:)

Characters:
Connie(15): beautiful, spoiled, irresponsible, narcist, daydreamer, rebellious, a typical teenager, at odds with her mother. She is having different moods at home and outside her house.
June(24):Connie's sister. She is plain, easygoing, chunky and a role model of the family. She is still living with her family and she is a secretary in Connie's school.
Father: he has no time to concern with his family(inconsiderate), doesn't talk much)unlike the mother:))
Mother: complaining about Connie& praising June. She sees Connie as a big problem:). Also, we may say that she envies Connie's beauty. Because, before the lines on her face she was also as beautiful as her.
Arnold Friend: an old "fiend". His name is a symbol of the devil in the story.(Fiend means very evil person or devil). He looks cool, he is self-confident, a bit saucy(his conversation with Connie is a proof for this), despotic, charming, smart and he knows what he wants. Addition to that, he is a lier because, he lies about his age to insist Connie. He is an adult!

-Benjamin & Connie-
As an adult Arnold Fiend orders and tries to give a way to Connie. He pressures her to come with him. (He expects Connie to accept what he asks)
Also Benjamin is opressed by his parents. For example, his father enforces Benjamin to go out with Elian.(So, here again we can see an adult who orders to a teenager)

Maturity&Values
Connie is an irresponsible and spoiled girl. But, at the end of the story we can see that she decides to go with Arnold in order to protect her family.(this is a mature and self-sacrificing decision) I think, also she is seduced by Arnold and that's she wants to go sneakingly though the little girl matures and she understands the value of her mother.(she laments by remembering her mother and her bed)

3. Me and My Mother:)

Retrieved from,
http://romans1513.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/love-mother-and-daughter-holding-hands-posters.jpg

In this post I will focus on the relationship between adoloscents and adults. I will try to show you the point of view of a young girl about adults:) In other words, as a teenager I will share my own relationship with my mother.

She is a real mother but she is an adult:). So, in some ways it causes a problem for me to understand her:( For example, she usually concerns me about my clothes. She tells me to wear thick clothes etc. But, sometimes this annoys me. Even if the weather is warm she insist me to wear a jacket and I usually try to object to her. But, I have to confess that whenever I object to listen her the weather gets cooler and I get sick:(. And, when I get sick she is the only one who deals with me:(( So, a mother usually is the exprienced and knows everything=(. Seeing that she is right to insist in some cases makes me angry ııııh:/=). Besides, she doesn't let me go out with my friends at night(except some special days(but rarely)). I know that, she tries to protect me but sometimes, I couldn't understand it exactly. But, may be here I am a bit guilty because I never rebel to my parents. I accept their decision and not usually question them. I am 19 years old and most of my friends find this strange but they accept me like this:). What I do is unlike the other teenagers I try not to look things from Simge's perspective. I try to think as if I am a mother or a father. So, when I change my point of view I think I understand them. Maybe I am a bit mother's darling but I am ready to accept their faults or the things even doesn't fit much with me. Because, I know they also accept me with all my faults and they try to do their best to make me happy:) Of course, we may have some conflicts but I am ready to solve them. Only to know that "SHE is with me" is enough. Because, a mother (mother or father) can annoy you in some cases but this mother is my best friend, she is my intimate and I know that she is the only one who will support me no matter what I do. A mother can make you cry but she can not stand you to cry, she can make you angry but she can not stand someone to make you angry and she is the one who gets happy as much as you in your cheers!
